Here is the hardest map that I have had to make so far. This one was a real challenge due to the shear number of data points. I think this ties with the Dot Density map. This map just had a shear number of data points, while the DD map you could just place the points.

This is a little late, but better late then never. There really was not too much different in this map then the one in lab 6. I just used the ColorBrewer to find a suitable pallete. Otherwise it was just redoing the lab 6 map.

Ok, this was the first idea that I had when I thought of an example of a dot density map. Please excuse the nerdiness. This is a map of the location of all of the people how are connected to the Internet playing Halo 3. This was taken on at 3:15 pm on the 5th of November. In 20 minutes, this will change as people log on and off. Since this is not being used for anything but a WOW factor, the only information provided is the total number of players online, there is no dot size or any other information.

Cool Typography

But you can look at the typography, and notice that it is different in places such that they have different levels of improtance.

Crazy Projections

Ok, so the projections are not going to be all that crazy, but i'm sure that they can be classified as 'mad interesting'. Here is the link: http://www.progonos.com/furuti/MapProj/Normal/ProjOth/projOth.html

I think that most of the projections on this page are interesting but my favorites would have to be the ones near the bottom, the arden-close maps. I think that they are neat becaude the parallels are splayed out from the map were as most projections have them wind around close to the center.

That's my $.02 at least.

My First Post

I would like to welcome everyone to my blog for Geography 310, Digital Cartography.

The United States Geological Survey was added to my links list because they are major producer of maps in the US and offer great job opportunies.

The Library of Congress Map Collection is a great source of historical maps and records. These are great for study of past conditions and ways of thought about maps and mapping. My favorite part is doing a dearch for treasure maps, since they have a good sized collection of them.

I added the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency because of the job that they do. They create maps for the national military and national defense, which includes aquiring and analyzing aerial and satellite remote sensing data.
